This document applies to:

and FaxPress Premier Analog

DESCRIPTION
This
configuration only works with dedicated inbound and outbound channels and
was tested using a PRI with DID’s for voice and fax. The voice DID’s are
34xx and the fax DID’s are 35xx.
Note:
The only downside here
is if all your inbound channels are in use, the NBX does not return a busy
signal so the inbound call gets a “ring no answer”. In a high volume
environment, putting an Adtran Atlas 550 or
FaxPress Premier Digital between the NBX and PSTN would be
recommended.
The diagram below illustrates
an example of an 8 port FaxPress where 4 ports are used for inbound fax calls
and 4 ports used for outbound fax calls.

To configure inbound
channels on the FaxPress:
- Open the Properties of the
FaxPress and open the Line Settings
- Set the number of rings to
answer to one (1).
To configure inbound
channels on the NBX:
- Analog line cards (ALC)
must be used for incoming fax calls as analog terminal cards (ATC) do not
support out pulsing DTMF tones.
- Configure the ALC ports in
a new extension list (i.e., Inbound Fax Channels) and check the “Cycle
Extensions” checkbox. This needs to be done so the incoming faxes will rotate
like a circular hunt group because the ports on the FaxPress do not reset as
fast as the ALC ports and you will experience problems if you keep trying to
use the same channel over and over.
- Next you will need a C.O.
simulator that will sit between the NBX ALC port and the FaxPress port to
provide dial tone for the ALC ports. The ones we used are from Viking
Electronics, Inc. Part number DLE-200B or DLE-300.

- Next you will need to
modify the dial plan to route the incoming fax DID’s to the new extension list
and out pulse the DTMF tones after the FaxPress answers.
Below are sample dial plan
entries on doing this. As you see, fax DID 35xx comes in and is routed to the
new extension list *0009 which are the line card ports. Because the C.O.
simulator is providing dial tone and the ports are online, the port goes
off-hook, which causes the C.O. simulator to ring the FaxPress. The commas are
putting pauses before the fax DID to allow for this process and after the
FaxPress answers the fax DID is out pulsed as DTMF tones. Start by using eight
(8) commas and you may need to modify this further for your environment.

NOTE:
If you are receiving data
errors, low baud rates, and your DID configuration is not receiving all digits
or no digits at all, we suggest moving the jp5 to jp6 jumper inside the DLE 300.
See below for jumpers 5 and 6
detailed descriptions:
JP5/JP6
Description: The two device ports are directly connected together
offering no signal loss between the devices. Move Shunt from JP5 to
JP6 to attenuate the audio volume between the devices by 9 db (typical of
most CO lines).

To configure outbound
channels on the NBX:
An Analog Terminal Card is
used to provide dial tone to the FaxPress and outgoing faxes will be treated as
any other outgoing call. You may need to use an outgoing CLI pre-translator for
the ATC ports that will present your main fax number as caller ID.
NOTE:
If you are receiving data
errors, low baud rates, and your DID configuration is not receiving all digits
or no digits at all, we suggest moving setting switch 3 on the face plate to the
on position on the DLE200B. See below for detailed description of switch 3.
Description
3-on/up Decreases audio volume by 9 db may increase fax/modem connection
speeds and help eliminate data errors
3 down/off
