How to setup Exchange Direct for Roaming Users
Castelle’s Exchange Direct is design for one person to work on each
workstation. If a workstation is to be shared by a different user the
transport services must be reconfigured. With user constantly moving
around, this could create problems. This document outline how to you can
set up Exchange Direct where you have roaming user.
If you choose to follow this procedure:
1. you must set up this procedure for each
roaming user
2. you must set up this procedure for each
user that share their computer with a roaming user.
3. Each workstation that is used by a
roaming must have Exchange Direct installed on it in the manner listed
below.
Example: If you have ten users using six
workstations, you will follow this procedure ten time (once for each
user), and you will have done an installation at lease one time on each of
the six workstation.
Installation
1. On your file server create a FPXP
directory.
2. In the FPXP directory create a directory
for each of user listed above. It is preferable to use their names because
you will need to identify them latter. Important: Users can not
share their directory with another user!
These directories will be used to store and
remove temporary files by Exchange Direct; thus, the amount of disk space
it will use is insignificant. Each user will need to be granted enough
rights so they (Exchange Direct) will be able to add, remove, and view the
contents of their directories.
3. Under each user directory, two
sub-directories have to be created. One to be called IN and the other
called OUT. This can be done using two methods. You could manually create
them or use the installation program to accomplish it. The second method
is the most preferred.
4. You must now install and configure
Exchange Direct on your first workstation for your first user. Being
careful to place the IN and OUT directory in the correct location. After
installation, verify that you can send and receive a fax in Exchange
Direct.
5. In your Windows directory, you will find
a file called FPXP32.INI. You will need to copy this file to a unique
location for that user. A good location may be the directory you created
in step 2.
6. Edit the user’s log in script to enter a
statement that will copy the FPXP32.INI file into the WINDOWS directory
when they log in.
7. Repeat steps 4 to 6 for each user.
Note: if you
choose to edit a user settings after this type of installation, you must
replace the master copy in the user’s directory with the new FPXP32.INI
file.
